The Koala Sanctuary on Kangaroo Island is committed to securing the future of one of Australia's most iconic and threatened species. Nestled within the island's last remaining large unburnt eucalypt plantation, our 500-hectare sanctuary is home to approximately 1,000 disease-free koalas โ a valuable population with the potential to support the recovery of the species nationwide.
Through innovative research, science-led rewilding, and long-term habitat restoration, we are creating a national opportunity, a refuge where koalas can thrive. As populations decline across mainland Australia, this sanctuary stands as a beacon of hope โ and a vital opportunity to shape the future of koala conservation.
With your support, we are working to transform crisis into opportunity โ protecting this irreplaceable population while pioneering new pathways for species survival.
๐ Our Vision - "A refuge for today. A pathway for tomorrow."
We aim to become Australia's leading centre for koala conservation and recovery โ protecting a vital stronghold population, advancing innovative research, and enabling the rewilding of koalas into secure habitats across the country. We envision a future where koalas not only survive but flourish โ supported by science, sustained by healthy environments, and safeguarded for generations to come.
